Esmeralda is a special pig on Nathaniel's Farm.  Nathaniel's father gets a husband (Horrid Harold) for Esmeralda, which neither she nor Nathaniel much like.  Esmeralda escapes to the forest, where she meets Vladimir, a wild boar.  Harold comes to bad end.  Nathaniel goes to the wild wood where he meets Vladimir, who does not want him in his wood.  Nathaniel is rescued by the farm dogs.  Ermentrude has a litter of piglings.  They are different!  One is called Ermentrude.   After some adventures, they meet Boris, who is the new king of the wild wood.  He is even more fierce than Vladimir ........
